Organization Overview:

Since 1982, El Puente has forged a nationally awarded and innovative, human rights driven, community/youth development organization. Buoyed by unprecedented success ranging from three “Tony” Awards garnered by alumni to the defeat of a legislated, 55 story incinerator to founding the first public high school for human rights in America, El Puente, today, is Brooklyn’s most comprehensive Latino Center for the Arts, a cutting edge Community Health and Environment Institute and a national leader in educational reform. El Puente’s unique, membership based, holistic empowerment model engages over 2,000 members who reach more than 10,000 neighbors annually through cultural events, public health action (especially regarding AIDS, Nutrition, Environmental Justice and community campaigns for Education Equity. The work of El Puente’s over 100 staff members (including volunteers) is governed by a 12 member Board of Directors whose local leadership is enhanced by major national leaders from Harlem to San Francisco.

Position Description:

El Puente seeks a Director of Contract Development and Management to direct the organization’s reporting and relationship requirements to all funders. The Director of Contract Development and Management will develop a process which will consolidate, support, supervise or completely absorb the work of several leading staff members, including grant writing, contract development, reporting and relationship building. This is a leading position that reports directly to the President and Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

• Organize, coordinate, write, and submit all government and foundation renewal grant applications and contracts;
• Create a tracking system for all grants including the contracting process, and a time line for objectives and reporting requirements;
• Meet all grant contract reporting requirements;
• In collaboration with the Director of Development investigate and communicate all new government and foundation opportunities;
• In collaboration with the Director of Development create print and web based instruments for advancing information about El Puente’s programs and progress ranging from press releases to podcasts;
• Manage and keep updated El Puente’s website
Qualities of a Successful Candidate:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a combination of skills, experience, and passion in the following areas:

• Five years of experience in administration, coordination and/or organizing;
• The ability to take initiative while remaining open to ideas of others;
• Skills in collaboration and teamwork;
• The ability to be flexible and adaptable;
• The ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines;
• Self-starter with impeccable follow-through;
• Excellent presentation and communications (written and oral) skills;
• Experience in responding to grant opportunities from government agencies at all levels as well as local and national foundations;
• An understanding and commitment to community and youth development and social justice issues;
• Experience working with diverse communities and, particularly, comfortable working within Latino communities;
• Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) a plus

COMPENSATION
