Description:

The Education Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, supervision and evaluation of activities pertaining to the educational needs of residents.

Administration:
• Assess the educational needs of the residents at The Inn
o Collect data on the types of educational needs/requests received from families to address families’ needs
• Research education programs in similar environments
• Serve as a liaison between Inn residents and their home schools
• Coordinate with NIH’s Educational Program
• Liaison with other staff members of The Inn to develop educational activities
• Facilitate and support all family programs and activities as needed
• Evaluate programs on an on-going basis

Guest Relations:
• Promote a homelike environment of support and understanding for residents of the Inn.
• Become familiar with all Inn rules, policies and services as they relate to the families residing at The Children’s Inn.
• Act in proactive manner to identify special family situations and take appropriate actions to promote resolution of conflicts.
• Inform the Director of Facilities and Resident Services when situations cannot be reasonably resolved.
• Ensure proper enforcement of Inn rules and manage conflicts when necessary.
• Maintain flexibility and acknowledge stress of communal living.
• Meet the reasonable needs of Inn residents.
• Ensure that the Learning Center is kept clean and supplies are kept organized and secure.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Resident Services.

Child & Family Support and Education:
• Supervise and coordinate educational activities in order to assist patients and their families in coping with the impact of chronic or serious illness on their lives
• Identify and pursue community educational partnerships
• Identify volunteer positions within the Education Program
• Coordinate tutoring program and provide supervision to volunteer tutors
• Ensure families are aware of educational services available to them
• Facilitate staff training as needed

Schedule:
Core hours will be Monday-Thursday from 3:00PM to 8:00PM. However, the Education Program Coordinator will be expected to determine their weekly schedule based on the needs of the activities and programs at The Inn. Monthly and quarterly staff meeting attendance required.

Additional Qualifications:

Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors Degree required, preferably in the field of education. Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desired.
Experience:
Experience coordinating and implementing educational programs for children and families is required. Knowledge of child development and educational curriculums highly desired.

Skills/Traits:
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with the broadest range of individuals including children, families, the general public and professionals is required. Must be highly motivated and creative and enjoy both hands on work with children and cultivating professional partnerships. Should be friendly and tactful with a compassionate personality. Must be flexible and demonstrate good decision-making ability in order to protect the safety and security of Inn residents. The Education Program Coordinator must be able to cope with and offer comfort to people in acute personal crisis. Should have a positive attitude and work well in a team-oriented environment. Must relate well to children. Must be open to all and comfortable with a variety of lifestyles.

Health:
Must be in good general health with no history of chronic diseases that could be hazardous to the residents of The Children’s Inn.
