PHOENIX HOUSE IS SEEKING A MILITARY SPECIALIST


BACKGROUND
Phoenix House, a leading non-profit provider of substance abuse treatment and mental health services, is interested in developing substance abuse treatment and mental health services for active duty military personnel and returning OEF/OIF veterans, and their families. We are searching for a bright, hard-working, entrepreneurial veteran to help develop these services and serve as the liaison between Phoenix House and various military and veteran stakeholders. This job will require strong research, analysis, writing and speaking skills, vision, creativity, the ability to work independently and with a team of diverse professionals, and a solutions-oriented, can-do attitude.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct internet and first-hand research about needs of active duty personnel, veterans and their families and the services already available to them. Write research analyses and position papers about assessed needs and services.
• Track and analyze local and national trends in needs of veterans and services available to them.
• Work with a multi-disciplinary team to design services that respond to the assessed needs. Create cost estimates for these services
• Track public and private funding available for services to active duty and veteran personnel and their families/loved ones
• Write proposals in response to public and private funding opportunities
• Meet with various active-duty military and veteran organizations to establish or strengthen relationships and ensure that services are responsive to the needs in their communities.

Additional Qualifications:

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience serving in the military
• B.A. REQUIRED
• Excellent research skills; Experience writing research papers required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of substance abuse issues/policies and familiarity with other relevant issues such as criminal justice, housing, and mental health.
• Ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of professional backgrounds.
• Strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.

LOCATION
New York City – Brooklyn. Some national travel may be required.
