Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Plan and direct community relations programs including prospecting for new funding opportunities especially corporate sponsorships, maintaining relationships with current donors, writing proposals in collaboration with program staff, managing all follow-up and report writing, maintaining timely and orderly records, providing community education, and coordinating of the volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Support for the Board of Directors and Constituent Groups

Assure that all fundraising and communication activities are conducted in an ethical manner and in accordance with the policies of the Board of Directors.

Serve as the lead staff support person to the Community Relations Committee of the Board of Directors.

Provide a comprehensive annual written plan for fundraising (including objectives, funding goals, sources, strategies and budgets). The plan will be approved by Sr. Management with support of the Community Relations Committee and will be monitored periodically.

Enlist support from the Board, staff, volunteers, families and other constituents for the development of the written plan for fundraising.

Monthly reports will be provided to Sr. Management and the Board of Directors demonstrating progress, challenges and actions taken.

Staff support to the CFS Family Auxiliary.

Fundraising/Development

Evaluate current funding status and develop/maintain a database to monitor and track submissions.

Identify potential contributors/grant opportunities through donation records, individual and corporate contacts, and knowledge of community resources consistent with CFS’s mission and prepare a high quality proposal.

Plan and coordinate annual fundraising drives with the Chairman, Community Relations Committee, and Senior Management staff.

Research and conduct personal solicitations of major donors.

Plan and manage special events.

Research, prepare, submit and present fundraising grant applications to foundations, corporations, public agencies, civic groups, religious groups, etc. Submit all grant reports in an accurate and timely manner.

Inform potential contributors of special needs of CFS and encourage individuals, corporations, foundations, etc. to establish or contribute funds through planned giving, endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kind, bequests, and conferring with attorneys and accountants to establish methods of transferring funds to benefit both the donor and CFS.

Work with the Finance Department staff to assure that all donations are properly recorded.

Acknowledge all contributions, donations, and grants in a prompt and legal manner.

Public Relations/Communication

Establish and maintain working relationships with media representatives and elected officials.

Identify main groups and audiences and determine the best way to communicate publicity information to them.

Respond to requests for information about CFS activities and programs.

Write interesting and effective press releases and prepare information for media kits.

Develop and maintain the CFS corporate image and identity including brochures, newsletters, publications, use of logos, signage, website and other communication strategies.

Represent CFS at professional networks for fundraising, volunteer services, and public relations.

Coordination of Volunteers

Coordinate the volunteer program; recruit, train, assign, support, supervise and provide recognition to volunteers.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Required: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college; minimum of two years successful experience in fundraising, and public relations or an equivalent combination of education and experience; familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint, website development and other media presentation techniques. Proven record of securing grants from foundations, corporations, community organizations, and government agencies. Support for a Board of Directors and/or Board committees; coordinating volunteer services; conducting special fund raising events; presentation to individual donors and groups; preparing grant reports; highly motivated and have excellent written and communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Relate well to person with disabilities.

Preferred: Five years of experience in organizations serving persons with disabilities.

Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, complete and interpret budget reports, requests for proposals, grant applications, etc. Ability to respond to requests for information from current or potential donors in verbal and written formats. Ability to write and present
fundraising and community relations speeches and articles for publication. Ability to effectively present information to the Board of Directors and management staff.

Physical Abilities: Able to lift boxes of brochures, display materials, audio visual equipment, etc.
