Description:

The Prevention Program is designed to help families retain their tenancy in Boston. The position requires an understanding of the factors that lead to rental arrearages and eviction, and a clinical and innovative approach to crisis intervention with families. The period of intervention can range from one session to contact throughout a year.

Responsibilities:

• Clear detailed assessment of factors leading to the presented crisis.
• Assessment of the families’ strengths.
• Review of client’s current budget; development of a plan to balance
• Assistance with decision making and problem solving.
• Development of short and long term plan.
• Assessment of supports, mainstream benefits, health and social service supports. Referrals to resources and tracking of outcomes as indicated by case needs.
• Negotiation with multiple systems, including landlords, property owners, utility companies, etc.
• Counseling around, family relationships, and employment decisions.
• Clear communication to team members and assistance with all team cases.
• Preparation of documentation for rental assistance, and data entry/documentation of all case information.
• Reporting of relevant issues and trends.
• Monthly and quarterly report detailing activities and outcomes.
• Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Additional Qualifications:

- MSW preferred; BA with experience in urban areas with low income families required.
- Spanish fluency preferred.
- Written and verbal fluency and outstanding organization is required.
- Ability to relate with professionalism, skill, and compassion essential.
