Asian American Leadership Empowerment and Development for Youth and Families (AALEAD) is a youth development organization. Our mission is to promote the well-being of Asian-American youth and families through education, leadership development and community building. Position Description: The Assistant Teaching position assist the main Teacher in all after school program activities. The program primarily serves low-income Asian-American students in elementary school between the ages of 5-13. The After School Program runs Monday through Friday from 3:15pm – 6:15pm . The Teaching Assistant reports to the Elementary School Program Site Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in managing classroom behavior
• Tutor students individually or in groups
• Carry out specific tasks, as directed by the teacher, such as daily reading and writing assignments.
• Provide daily assistance with vocabulary and grammar. Correct student pronunciation, spelling and syntax.
• Provide a lesson per day of teaching
• Assist with all homework and special projects
• Assist teacher with sport, recreational, art, and all extra curricular activities.
• Meet with supervisor on a regular basis to discuss individual student progress and recommendations for improvement.
• Notify AALEAD in advance when you are not available to work



Additional Qualifications:

Qualifications:
• BA/BS in Education preferred
• Fluency in an Asian language preferred
• Relevant experience working with youth.
• Good organizational skills; strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate and interact with volunteers, students, and parents.
• Sensitivity to the needs of and the ability to work with refugee and immigrant children and families.
• Attentive to details; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
