POSITION: Teacher, Groundwork for Success


HOURLY WAGE: $18- $22 per hour


JOB DESCRIPTION: Groundwork Inc. is looking for highly-motivated, organized, detail-oriented instructors to teach core subject areas to high school students enrolled in Groundwork for Success, a college preparatory program that offers leadership development and internship experience to students from the high-poverty community of East New York, Brooklyn. The teachers will facilitate classes in a core subject area of English, Science, Math, PSAT/SAT Prep and Saturday Academy and lead skill-building classes of 15 students for 10-12 hours per week. The goal of these skill-building classes is to improve students’ competency in the specific subject area.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and deliver creative class instruction for high school students of various ages and ability levels following the state standards.
• Oversee assessment of students’ competency levels pre and post-term.
• Assume primary role in assessing students with remedial needs, and develop appropriate curriculum and intervention strategies.
• Support program evaluation through accurate record keeping and cooperation with internal and external evaluation resources.
• Support long term sustainability of the program by working with GWS Program Director for logistics.
• Coordinate work with other program staff when relevant. Attend regular staff meetings as requested.
• Attend staff development meetings.

Additional Qualifications:

• The ideal candidate has a Master’s degree and has had experience teaching specific subject area at the high school level. Graduate students pursuing a Master’s degree are also encouraged to apply.
• Strong commitment to Groundwork’s social mission.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
• At least two years successful experience with classroom instruction, curriculum development, and assessment.
• Must have experience working with children in racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse urban communities.
