Description:

The Vice President of Development provides the leadership, strategic direction, management and coordination for all Bideawee fundraising efforts. The VP of Development will create fundraising strategies that increase the organization’s support from individuals, corporations, foundations and other sources. The Vice President of Development works closely with other Vice Presidents, the President & CEO and key volunteer leadership to achieve the fundraising goals of the organization. The Vice President of Development ensures that all development programs are effective in promoting Bideawee’s mission, vision, values and priorities as well as in attracting a wide variety of new donors and customers.

• Sites: New York City, Wantagh and Westhampton. Office located in Manhattan or Wantagh.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

Resource Development
Create and oversee the implementation of a strategic resource development plan, strategies, tactics and programs that aggressively increase support in all fundraising areas with the goal of building a robust, diversified, deep and stable income base for Bideawee. Areas of responsibility include:

• Major Gifts Program
• Annual Fund
• Planned Giving Program
• Online Giving
• Corporate & Foundation Giving
• Special Events
• Direct Mail
• Board Development

Provide strategic leadership, oversight and management to development staff in order to accomplish these goals:

• Work with president/CEO and Board to create a strong major gifts program by identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gifts from current and new donors.
• Build the Annual Fund so that it provides stable and consistent support to Bideawee.
• Increase online donations by developing a robust fundraising platform on Bideawee’s website.
• Develop a signature corporate support program by identifying and cultivating new corporate donors and partnerships.
• Increase foundation income by ensuring that Bideawee receives support from appropriate funders.
• Expand and stabilize Bideawee’s successful Bequest and Legacy Program.
• Provide creative and strategic oversight and supervision to Bideawee’s Direct Mail Program.
• Design and oversee the implementation of special events programs, including an annual gala.
• Explore and develop additional revenue-generating programs.
• Initiate a program to recruit fundraising volunteers and create opportunities for them to develop their leadership and fundraising skills through training, seminars and one-on-one interaction.
• Prepare monthly statistical and descriptive reports on development goals and performance. Prepare summary reports for Board meetings, and present to Board as needed.
• Ensure best practices are adhered to in database management, donor record keeping, gift processing, gift acknowledgment and stewardship activities.
• Manage department staff to ensure the development of sound and measurable fundraising goals, tactics and programs. Provide professional training and development opportunities to staff.
• Ensure that Customer Service staff is adequately trained to ensure that constituent contacts meet or exceed their expectations for service.
• Work with the Board and President/CEO to identify, cultivate and recruit new Board members as required. Provide support to the Board Committees as requested.



Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in strategic philanthropy and long range fund development.
• Demonstrated experience in managing people and budgets; ability to work in a hands-on environment with limited resources
• Demonstrated use of creative, entrepreneurial and strategic skills in building an organization’s contributed and earned income base.
• Proven track record in raising more than five million dollars annually in private sector support.
• Experience managing a successful team of fundraising professionals and working with Boards and board committees.
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
• High energy and great enthusiasm for working for an organization that promotes and supports safe, loving, long-term relationships between people and companion animals.
• Ability to effectively gain the respect and support of various constituencies, including Board and staff members, donors and foundation and civic leaders.
• Advanced degree in business, non-profit or public administration a plus.

Additional Qualifications:

Special Position Requirements/Physical Requirements
• Must have the ability to travel independently throughout metropolitan New York and Long Island and have access to a motor vehicle, including a current driver’s license.
• Must have the ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
