Description:

The Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GBC), the pre-eminent business organization leading the business response to these epidemics, and the Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa (CAMA), are seeking a Malaria Program Manager.

GBC and CAMA have partered to increase business engagement and multi-sector collaboration to fight malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. The manager’s role will be to serve as a source of technical and programmatic expertise and to help CAMA deliver on its 2010 activities.

The manager position is located at GBC headquarters in New York City.

Responsibilities

This position provides the management and leadership that will enable the GBC-CAMA partnership to accomplish its objectives and advance business action on malaria.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Manage the execution of CAMA events and deliverables for 2010—including a two-week entomology training workshop in Angola in February 2010

• Serve as the communication hub for CAMA companies, bringing updates and opportunities to the attention of CAMA members and ensuring that all CAMA members remain informed and engaged

• Maintain an institutional record of the project, serving as rapporteur for CAMA meetings and conference calls, summarizing key points and executing or shepherding the execution of action items

• Participate in identifying opportunities to profile CAMA and its activities on GBC’s website, at key events and throughother external communication vehicles

• Serve as in-house expert on malaria control strategies

• Coordinate relationships between CAMA and other partners working in the field of malaria control

Additional Qualifications:

The manager position requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build successful working relationships with a variety of corporate stakeholders. The successful candidate must be able to create and foster accountability among CAMA stakeholders, adhere to timelines and maintain a sharp focus on the partnership’s deliverables. The ideal candidate will combine a business perspective (gained through work experience and/or a business degree) with solid knowledge about malaria and a practical understanding of how public health interventions are implemented in low-resource settings. A commitment to the Global Business Coalition’s mandate is essential.

• Advanced degree in public health, science, medicine or related field with five to seven years of experience, at least two years of which should be in/with African countries; monitoring and evaluation experience a plus

• Practical understanding of malaria and malaria control in the African context—ideally supported by knowledge of key stakeholder institutions including Roll Back Malaria, President’s Malaria Initiative, World Bank, Global Fund and operating NGOs

• Ability to interface with and motivate senior executives at multinational companies, and to forge effective relationships with diverse partners in pursuit of a common objective

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including persuasive verbal and written communication (English)

• Business experience/mindset strongly preferred

• Ability to multi-task and function under pressure in fast-paced, dynamic environment
