Description:
Title: Field Organizer/Program Assistant
Reports To:Deputy Executive Director
Summary: Under the supervision of the Deputy Executive Director Program, the Field Organizer/Program Assistant provides assistance in the coordination of the Community Networks Program, P.A.S.O., and other programs. The Field Organizer/Program Assistant provides support to all program staff in order to achieve the objectives of the organization, conducts research and drafts basic letters and memoranda, oversees and manages preparation of presentation materials, conducts presentations to community organizations, registers new members to the organization, promotes programs, activities and initiatives to organizational members and leaders. The position requires excellent presentation skills, computer skills, proficiency in Spanish and English, strong writing skills, organizational and multi-tasking abilities, and strong communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Together with the COFEM team, organize within immigrant communities and members to expand the existing base of individuals and organizations engaged in building power for immigrants and advocating on key policies.
2. Work with members to move a pro-immigrant agenda at the local, state, and national levels. This includes assisting in developing strategies, engaging in direct action, planning events, rallies, forums, media, etc.
3. Recruit and develop grassroots leadership in conjunction with other COFEM staff
4. Mobilize community members and coalition partners to attend specific events including but not limited to: town halls, rallies, demonstrations, and lobby days
5. Assist individual clients interested in immigration or other services by completing basic forms, answering questions, and providing other forms of direct assistance maintaining the highest degree of quality in customer/member service
6. Conduct presentations before Club and affiliate organizational members and register new interested members to the organization
7. Develop information needed by the Deputy Executive Director and other staff coordinating programs, schedules meetings and events for the organization
8. Prepare and develop information on important issues relevant to the immigrant community in the area of education, civil rights, health, economic development and other areas of concern to the community
9. Disseminate information and notifications to chore audiences by using the telephone, mail services, and email
10. Draft letters, reports, and memorandums; prepares and organizes presentations; oversees maintenance and organization of materials and records
11. Work collaboratively with COFEM team as required to accomplish the strategic mission and shared vision
12. Other related duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience
•Prior Community Organizing experience is recommended
•Demonstrated commitment/interest in working with the immigrant community
•Ability to fluently speak, write, and read Spanish is strongly recommended
•Demonstrated ability to be creative, flexible, well-organized
•Skilled at developing and nurturing relationships with key partners, particularly with other community, organizations, organizational leaders, public and private stakeholders, and other community members
•A philosophy of valuing people, listening, and creating equal partnerships and collaborative efforts that is inclusive and results-oriented
•Committed and able to uphold high levels of accountability for self and for others
Education Requirements
Bachelors degree preferred. Education requirements may be waived if candidate meets all of the above skills, abilities, and experiences.
