Description:
The Safe Horizon Brooklyn Family Court supervised visitation and safe exchange program provides the setting for visitation between a child and his or her non-custodial parent in cases where there has been a court determination that unsupervised visitation is unsafe or inappropriate.
Essential Job Functions:
• Recruit, train, and supervise multi-lingual staff on ongoing basis in the duties listed below and to ensure the provision of culturally competent services to a diverse locality;
• Oversee court-ordered visitation between non-custodial parents and their children;
• Oversee court-ordered supervised exchanges between non-custodial parents and their children;
• Prepare reports for the court and ensure quality of all reports submitted by other program staff;
• Supervise case-managers in the provision of services, conduct PRSs and Pay for Performance evaluations.
• Provide counseling for parents and children, addressing problems associated with separation, domestic violence, and visitation, making referrals for additional services when necessary;
• Prepare case plans for families participating in the program;
• Attend national trainings and conferences (including out-of-state) on topics pertaining to child visitation, custody and domestic violence;
• Be available to make presentations at conferences and trainings on issues related to supervised visitation;
• Participate in quarterly advisory board meetings of stakeholders in the community for the purposes of ongoing program development and sustainability;
• Maintain case records, detailed statistics, prepare progress reports for funders, and other duties as assigned.
Additional Qualifications:
Required:
• Sensitivity towards and understanding of victimization, especially the experience of survivors of domestic violence;
• Experience with the family court and criminal justice system preferred;
• Strong communication and organizational skills;
• Ability to work under pressure;
• Must be able to work as a part of a team and independently;
• Supervisory experience.
• A Masters in Social Work
• Supervisory experience:
• Fluency in another language preferred but not required.
Desirable:
• Experience working with families and children and with domestic violence.
