Description:
The Cal Alumni Association (CAA) is seeking a strategic and highly experienced Vice President, Development. One of CAA’s strategic goals is to dramatically grow its philanthropic efforts and hire a senior fundraising professional with a proven record of success to lead this newly expanded effort. This position will be responsible for all aspects of fundraising for CAA, including the planning, development and execution of fundraising and campaign strategies, prospect development, cultivation, solicitation and the management of a team of 5 FTEs. The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in providing strategic leadership to fundraise for a variety of organizational programs and priorities. The Vice President, Development will report to the Executive Director and will be a member of the Senior Management team. This is a full-time, exempt position located in Berkeley, CA.
Responsibilities:
Candidates should demonstrate significant experience managing a fundraising function in previous professional capacities. Key responsibilities include:
• Oversee all fundraising activities at the Association
• Develop and implement strategic, fundraising and campaign plans and goals for the Association
• Plan, develop and execute strategies for obtaining private donations; identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects (individuals, corporations and foundations)
• Manage a portfolio of select major gift prospects
• Partner with the executive director to cultivate and solicit campaign leadership gifts
• Manage fundraising goals and report progress
• Evaluate and organize Development staff team for optimal success.
• Develop and manage volunteers and/or volunteer committees in support of fundraising efforts
• Provide leadership and management of Development team
• Lead fundraising marketing effort and work in collaboration with the Chief Marketing Officer
• Develop and manage campaign budget effectively
• Work collaboratively and constructively with other members of CAA’s Senior Management Team
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred)
• 10+ years of full-time director level fundraising experience, including successful major gifts fundraising ($25,000+)
• Demonstrated success and evidence of ability to plan and execute fundraising campaigns from start to finish
• Demonstrated senior leadership with strategic, policy and budget planning experience
• Demonstrated leadership and management of professional and administrative staff
• Experience working with nonprofit boards in a fundraising capacity
• High-level interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, including ability to write and speak persuasively in front of groups large and small
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends, to travel extensively, and must have valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
• Fundraising experience in institutions of higher education
• Experience with university alumni/donor database systems and in particular the UC Berkeley Campus Advancement Database System (CADS)
• Advanced degree
• Familiarity with UC Berkeley and its alumni and donors
• Cal alumnus/a
