Description:

Tanzania Governance Noticeboard

A new online resource of financial information of various government departments called the Tanzania Governance Noticeboard, TGN, has been launched.

This interactive database, believed to be first of its kind in Africa, is a programme of the leading non-governmental research organisation, Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA). TGN takes several web pages of the REPOA website:

http://www.repoa.or.tz/tgn

The website contains data from central government as well as local government financial management in Tanzania, making an end to difficulties faced by the general public in accessing such information.

The source of data ranges from downloadable figures of revenue, expenditures, budget, some selected sections of the Auditor General’s reports, and the National Anti-corruption Strategy Action Plan, among others. This will enhance financial transparency at the national, regional and district levels in Tanzania.

The website enables users to make comparisons across sectors and administrative areas and track developments over time, as well as produce a table of data showing information relevant and meaningful to them. A finger click enables user to access information of a particular district, such how much was received from the Government in the form of grants, as well as the district’s own revenue collection. The user will also be able to see how much how much was spent on salaries, development projects, etc.

Information from the Auditor General’s report for ministries and districts are also available on the website, with historical data for several years. One can also find out how many reports of corruption each ministry has received since 2002, and the actions taken.

A guide on how to use this interactive on-line database, is also available on-line at:
