We are seeking for a donation of computer equipment, software, accessories ICT training materials: Textbooks, CD/DVD ROMS, manuals, examination software and teacher training resources plus volunteer trainees for developing our vulnerable people in Computer and ICT Projects in Uganda and for setting up 3 new ICT Training Centers in Kampala, kumi, masaka districts of Uganda.
Background:
Vision for sustainable development (VFSD) is a Childcare and Youth Development not-for-profit nongovernmental organization (NGO), improving the welfare of orphans, vulnerable children, women, disadvantaged youth and their communities in Uganda. We stand as a voice for the disadvantaged children, women, & youth in communities all over Uganda. VFSD was registered in Uganda as an NGO and incorporated as a Company limited by guarantee without share capital in 2005. VFSD supports orphans and disadvantaged children, women and youth in formal education and ICT skills Training programs, in Kampala, kumi districts of Uganda.
Mission:
VFSD exists with a mission to rescue disadvantaged children, releasing them from the bondage of poverty and misery, improving their physical well-being, enhancing their education opportunities in this modern world, providing safe shelter, scholastic materials and granting each one equal opportunity to discover, explore, develop and realize their full potential.
Project:
In December 2008, VFSD planned an initial donation request of used computer equipment from world wide computer UK, for setting up a Community Computer & ICT Skills Training program in Kampala, to help provide ICT skills to disadvantaged children and youth. VFSD had to proceed to set up the first VFSD Computer ICT Skill Training Center, in bwaise, Kampala district in 2009, and also set up a second Computer Skill Training Centre in kumi town but we failed due to lack of resources or fund to the computers at cheap price
Currently, the two Centers provide ICT skills training covering:
• Introduction to Computer, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
• MS Office (2003/2007) Packages
• Desktop Publishing and Graphic designing
• Web designing and development
• Basic computer repair and maintenance
• Basic computer networking
The Community ICT Skill training program would have runs for a three 4-monthly semesters cycles per year, with each semester taking in a minimum of 60 orphaned youth per training cycle in Kampala and 30 in the kumi Centre. Thus training 60x3 semesters =180 youth per year, at the Kampala computer Center. The kumi Computer ICT skill Training Center would have operated at a smaller scale but more and more orphaned youth from the community are in need of acquiring the skills. Currently, the kumi Center trains a minimum of 10 young people per training cycle; totaling 30 young people receive the training per year and more allover the population is growing higher and higher.
Assessing the present needs and future increase in Uganda’s orphan population in Uganda (currently at 2.5million), and in light of the increasing number of people having access to computers and the internet in Uganda, there is need for VFSD to expand its Community ICT Skill training program to cover other needy areas of Uganda where disadvantaged children, women and youth live to give them equal access to the ICT skills for modernity life of the world. At the same time VFSD is looking at meeting the needs of the increasing number of young people completing secondary education in the rural areas without having any post secondary education training for employment and development.
VFSD is seeking a donation of computer equipment, accessories, training material, volunteer trainees and other resources to enable her expand the current two Community ICT Skill Training Centers into more comprehensive programs, introduce more ICT courses and give opportunity for more disadvantaged children and youth to learn the skills and also set up additional 3 new Community ICT Centers in other different Arua, Gulu districts of Uganda.
