Mission:
The YWCA of Queens, formerly known as the Flushing Branch of the YWCA of the New York City, was founded in 1978 by a close-knit group of nine immigrant women seeking to provide services to immigrant women and their families.
Ever since, the YWCA of Queens has served the needs of the Queens community with multi-generational, multi-cultural programs that benefit all residents, but that are particularly sensitive to low-income and immigrant families. Through ongoing advocacy, direct service, educational, and vocational programs, the YWCA of Queens helps families address the difficulties they confront in American life.
From providing childcare and after school programs to assisting new immigrants attain citizenship, the YWCA of Queens meets a multitude of needs for those in the community. As the YWCA of Queens, we will continue to work toward our mission:
A women’s membership movement nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and the richness of our diverse faith and values.
We will work to eliminate racism and foster women’s growth and economic opportunities and provide educational programs for all women and their families.
