Louisiana Interfaith Together (LIFT) is the Louisiana State project of the PICO National Network. PICO LIFT’s mission is to provide families and religious congregations in Louisiana with a voice in the decisions that shape their lives and communities. We do this through grassroots, congregation-based community organizing. Since 1998, PICO LIFT has worked on the issues of education and housing as primary concerns of residents. Our statewide work has resulted in several victories, including ensuring full funding for primary and secondary education. Through the work of our local organizations in New Orleans and throughout the state we are engaging current and displaced residents of Hurrican Katrina. We provide residents with leadership training – public speaking skills, critical assessment of policies, listening skills, etc – and empower them to publicly participate in the process of rebuilding Louisiana.
