Mission:
The Queer Immigrant Rights Project (QuIR)seeks to oppose the isolation and exploitation faced by queer immigrants by creating safe social spaces and changing oppressive and unjust social structures.
QuIR is a group of queer immigrants and allies advocating in solidarity to improve the living conditions of transgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer immigrants, particularly those without access to documents of legal status, fair wages and working conditions, healthcare, and education.
We believe:
That the current dominant social regime is overwhelmingly anti-queer, anti-immigrant, and racist, actively reinforces the gender binary, and results in the continuous isolation and exploitation of queer immigrants.
That it is crucial to bring LGBTIQ issues to the forefront of the immigrant rights agenda and immigration issues to the forefront of the LGBTIQ rights agenda.
That immigrant rights struggles must be centered and led by immigrants.
