Mission:
Struggles over democracy have become a defining feature of contemporary life, in the U.S. and around the world. Yet democratic norms and institutions are far from universal, and their persistence is far from assured. These trends have fueled the growth of professional opportunities linked to democracy, including careers in fields such as democracy promotion, the organization and oversight of elections, the development of civil society, strengthening human rights, supporting the rule of law, and many others.
In response, the Georgetown University Center for Democracy and Civil Society has established a two-year M.A. program in Democracy & Governance through the Department of Government. The program will be of special interest for those seeking to develop careers working on behalf of democratic change in a wide range of professional and academic settings, particularly Political Science, International Relations and Development. Applications are due January 15, 2010 for fall enrollment.
