Mission:
Discovered by the American Impressionists in 1899, Old Lyme, Connecticut has remained a painter's paradise for more than 100 years.
Many of the early artists who established the Lyme Art Colony are considered to be among the 20th century's great masters of representational painting and include Childe Hassam, Will Howe Foote, Willard Metcalf, Henry Ward Ranger, Carleton Wiggins, Gifford Beal, J. Alden Weir, and Henry Rankin Poore.
Although a century has passed since these artists first arrived by steam engine, horse drawn buggies and Model T's to paint the beautiful rivers, salt marshes and rolling New England country landscapes, their artistic vision lives on in year-round exhibitions and sales of Impressionism and Representational fine art by today's Member Artists of the historic Lyme Art Association Gallery.
Opened in 1921 as a permanent exhibition home for the Lyme Art Colony artists, the Lyme Art Association Gallery, which is free to the public and open Tuesdays through Sunday, continues to be a vibrant art center. Professional as well as developing artists mount major exhibitions throughout the year and form the heart of the Lyme Art Association which now boasts over 1,000 members.
With a busy schedule of exhibitions and sales, affordable art classes, workshops, and a popular lecture series, the Lyme Art Association welcomes you on your next visit to Old Lyme Connecticut where art lives!
