SAJE is a high school student group comprised of numerous subcommittees. The group works to raise awareness about social issues and find ways to help combat them.

Comprised of 3 core committees (the Anti-Hunger Committee, Global Health Committee, and Climate Action Committee), each year new (sometimes temporary) committees arise that form according to annual opportunities.

Each group conducts events and campaigns to spread the word about current issues. This past year Anti-Hunger Committee has produced such events as an Oxfam Hunger Banquet and a speaker event focused on global famine. The Climate Action Committee recently held a “Carbon Café” for the community with information on how to reduce contributions to global warming and featuring a representative from NStar. Finally, in past years the Global Health Committee has conducted fundraisers (most notably the 50x100 campaign for Partners in Health) and HIV/AIDS awareness events.

In the past we have had a Fair Trade Committee and currently have a committee setting up a tent for “Tents of Hope”, which will provide shelter for refugees of the Darfur genocide.

All of our campaigns and events are directed at the entire school community. Many of them are targeted at all groups within our town and the rest of Greater Boston.

Meetings are held during school hours, but campaign partnerships with the greater community are welcomed. Because of the 4-year maximum for participation (because of high school graduation), all members, no matter the length of membership, play an equal role in the group.
