Mission:

Beacon of Hope Uganda is a small NGO authorized by the Uganda government to carry out charitable activities amongst rural areas of the country. All our projects aspire to contribute to the welfare and social productivity of disadvantaged children and youths throughout Uganda. Established by Isaac Ssamba in 2006 Beacon of Hope Uganda has successfully provided schooling for hundreds of orphans and disadvantaged youths in Uganda.

I came up with an idea to build an organization that puts money and skills into the grassroots and underprivileged communities of Mukono, Bushenyi and Gomba Districts in Uganda. We are a legally registered non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO), operating totally in Uganda especially in Mukono, Bushenyi and Gomba Districts. We have been placing and hosting volunteers since June, 2007.

Through assistance from international volunteers, we are aiming at helping the lives of rural Ugandans through a number of privately financed development projects and to mobilize the power of humanity and improving the value of vulnerable through HIV/AIDS control programs, poverty eradication through practical skills training and Orphan care and Support

. Despite limited funds Isaac has built BoHU into an organization with multiple projects including the following

A primary school teaching over 100 village orphans, disadvantaged children and adult evening classes.

A team of 20 dedicated counselors providing support to HIV/AIDS affected communities in Uganda

Funded numerous rural projects to enable sustainable small community based commerce

Built 3 wells providing clean water to 600 plus people, helping to eliminate cholera, typhoid & dysentery. That is saving lives!!

" Established a Trade Training Centre for teenagers unable to afford schooling

Has supported the interests and talents of young people by setting up football tournaments, music, dance and drama competitions and offered the little he has by sponsoring those well performing youths.

Established a Trade Training Centre for widows, women and men to enable them earn a living

Has established 2 two orphanages in Bushenyi and Gomba Districts, where over 130 orphans are housed, fed and educated

Beacon of Hope Uganda recruits and places foreign volunteers with small community based projects and schools around Mukono, Bushenyi and Gomba- Uganda. Through our volunteer placement program, we aim to build the capacities of local projects and raise awareness around the world about the successes and challenges of life in Uganda

Many local Projects lack the money and skills to grow themselves. We hope that with our program in place, our projects will overcome some of the more serious challenges they face. These include: lack of money for operations (wages, office space, transport, training courses), lack of business skills (book keeping, marketing, strategy, grant writing), and lack of up to date knowledge (Counselling/mentoring skills, English language, HIV/AIDS and life skills information).
