Mission:
The South Dakota Advocacy Network for Women is a network for South Dakotans which provides an advocacy voice, communication among groups and individuals, collective action, and education on behalf of women's issues. SDANW supports the 1977 National Women's Conference Plan of Action ratified by 2,000 delegates representing 56 state and territorial conventions. The 1977 Plan of Action seeks to advance the equal rights of wome; promote equitable participation of women in management, governance, and decision-making; support women in their role as mothers; protect women's reproductive freedom; prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, color, disability, and sexual preference; and protect women from violence and aggression. The SDANW is goverened by the consensus of a representative Board of Directors and influences the legislative process through its lobbyists, Legislative Day activities, Legislative "Action Alerts," and publication of elected officials' voting records.
