Mission:
The 木，林，森 Project seeks to establish a symbiotic funding mechanism to help rebuild forest greenbelts around Mount Kenya, a UNESCO world heritage site.
How the system works: local students, following methods outlined in a primer available here, use written symbols invented by our human ancestors to compose pictures about trees. The drawings are exhibited here, at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and at the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Art lovers from around the world, who are deeply concerned about the environment, can bid on these pictures through this website for eventual purchase.
The process of this system includes the transmission of knowledge, artistic creation, love and care, and the mutual benefits of communication.
The trees drawn on these students’ paper will become actual trees, growing on Kenyan soil.
