Mission:

Behind the Book is a nonprofit organization promoting literacy and a reading culture in New York City public schools.

Our mission is to excite children and young adults about reading. Working with low-income students in K-12 public schools, we bring authors and their books into individual classrooms to build literacy skills and nurture a new generation of readers. We are the only 501(c)(3) in New York City motivating youth to read through a program of book donations and author visits connected to classroom curriculum.
