"I possess a strong passion for helping others, specifically in the area of fighting cancer. On September 11, 2001, my mother underwent her first open-heart surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from her left atrium. Since then, she has undergone two more open-heart surgeries and countless other procedures to fight the rare form of cancer that attacks her body: sarcoma. Her struggle to fight for life has turned into an inspiring vision of how one can positively affect the lives of others in the direst of circumstances. In no way can I completely comprehend her struggle, but I can admire at her willingness to continue to serve others. I want to pay homage to my mother’s attitude by working towards helping others in some way, and I feel like this initiative fits that same type of purpose. "
