Description:
I am a consumer media professional with six years' experience as a Reporter at PEOPLE magazine and People.com.
During my time at PEOPLE, I've published stories and interviews ranging from the first mainstream media report on the World Food Programme’s FreeRice.com, to "Gift Guides" that include Fair Trade items (a first for the magazine) to profiles on celebrities such as Matthew Broderick and the stars of Harry Potter.
The knowledge I have gained of the inner-workings of a corporate journalism environment coupled with the for-profit business culture is immeasurable and immense.
I seek a position in communications and media relations for a not-for-profit organization to which I can bring the expertise I have accumulated and the vast contacts I have nurtured to bear rewarding fruit for that organization, in the form of increased exposure and a heightened awareness for the general public.
Additionally, I have a heightened awareness and critical eye for the problems of media consolidation and an over-reliance on dwindling advertising revenue, and how those situations have affected the profitability and reliability of mass media.
As a consultant to organizations seeking media attention, I bring my proven success rate in media placement and my discerning eye for what works and what doesn't, as well as a commitment to the people of the world (rather than to corporate profits).
My goal is to realign media with public service, as it should be in a working democracy.
