Description:

Volunteer Position: Teacher for public school
Duration: one week to Five months
Location: Kathmandu, Pokhara, Bhaktapur, Kavre

Volunteers will teach English in public schools to students of varying ages and abilities although school children will mostly be 5 to 16 years of age and have basic English skills. Volunteers will teach for 3 to 4 periods a day, each period goes for 45 minutes, 6 days a week, Saturday is a day off. Depending on location of schools normally there are 15 to 40 children in a class. Volunteers will teach either independently or with a Nepali counterpart who assists volunteer to solve language barriers if they appear in the class.
Volunteers will also be encouraged to exchange teaching methodology with Nepali teachers and conversational English to enable them to teach English in the future.

Prior to their placement and duration, volunteers will receive Nepali language, cultural training and TEFL, ESOL training. During their placement, volunteers will stay with a local Nepali family located between a half-hour to one hour from the school.

Candidate must have at least a highschool degree qualification or strong English language skills and a strong zeal to work with Nepali children.
