Description:
These individuals play a critical role in providing leadership in the development and execution of external and internal/employee communications strategies and setting the tone of all messages, assuring the content is consistent with our corporate image. Key to the development of the strategies, goals, objectives and tactics our CMs will help define and refine all communications across a broad network of organizations including interfacing with media relations. Objectives and requirements include: Exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Ability to quickly adapt to new environments. Strategic planning - Ability to mobilize resources. Highly organized and fully accountable - Quick grasp of legal policies. Working knowledge of environmental, animal rights and civil rights issues along with their political implications. Communications team player with the ability to support numerous activist organizations. Ability to interface with media and news department managers to create highly targeted and seamless communications. Researching and writing and securing approval for news releases that are well supported with background material. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with relevant key trade and business contacts. Create both print and electronic communication as appropriate to ensure favorable, ongoing exposure for assigned topics. Help develop appropriate media interest around activities of Earth Media Network and its key executives. Enhance and implement a strategic internal communications process (messaging/content strategy, internal branding, change communications, values alignment) to foster mission success. Develop and execute special communications projects as assigned
Skills
Bachelor's degree is required in any one of the following areas: journalism, communications, public relations, or a technical discipline, especially telecommunications, or a related field; a Master's degree, particularly an MBA, would be very advantageous but not required. Experience: Candidates should have media relations and internal/employee communications experience, in an agency or corporate environment, or both. Prior experience with high-level responsibilities and executive contacts would be beneficial. The ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of a complex communications platform or system will be very helpful. Additional consideration will be given to candidates that have a strong background in telecommunications, public relations and marketing. We are looking for solid communication skills combined with the ability to build and maintain relationships. Our CMAs must have a presence about them, be persuasive and confident earning them total credibility. Successful candidates will be comfortable with all types of media outlets to include: trade, business, and consumer print media, as well as managing broadcast media. These individuals must be strong writers, have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, have the ability to work cross-functionally and as part of a team, and each be strong managers. Successful candidates must be computer literate, with the ability to use a myriad of writing and presentation software programs. Other Characteristics: Comfortable working within an extremely fast-paced atmosphere while being fluid within an open structure. Successful candidates should be intellectually quick and comfortable with change. Our CMAs must have the ability to make solid judgment calls and decisions and be strong problem solvers. Establishing priorities and recognizing when those priorities have shifted and then adjusting priorities accordingly is also very important. The candidate who assumes this position should be unflappable in most situations and have the ability to communicate in a forthright manner, yet know how to be diplomatic with subordinates, peers and senior management. This professional must have the ability to know how to influence senior management on strategic issues/counsel, while at the same time knowing when to accept managements decisions and act upon them accordingly. In addition, our CM team must be extraordinarily dedicated and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve the goals before them. Additional qualities include: team player mindset; positive can do attitude; high degree of credibility; self-motivated; high energy; passionate about his/her work; flexible yet resilient with a strong intuitive ability.
