Description:

Title: SEAPRO Oil Spill Responder

Job Description: SEAPRO responders protect Southeast Alaskan waters, shores, and wildlife through emergency response to oil spills. Responders engage in wildlife hazing, operate response equipment, and perform emergency operation duties as part of an award-winning, US Coast Guard certified Oil Spill Response Organization.

Qualifications: Age 18 or older. Must live within Southeast Alaska. No experience/education required. Training is provided FREE of cost, and includes 24 hours of HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) certification training, plus 8+ hour training in response techniques.

Responsibilities: Responders will receive transferable training, skills and hands-on experience in a variety of areas, including:

-- HAZWOPER procedure
-- Emergency Response
-- Wildlife Hazing
-- Radio / Communications
-- Basic Boating
-- Team Leadership
-- Equipment Operation
-- Equipment Repair and Maintenance
-- Incident Command System (Finance, Logistics, Planning, Safety, and Operations)

Time Commitment: Responders should be able to attend 24 hours of cost-free HAZWOPER certification training, and approximately 8 hours of response training. Work opportunities are highly variable, depending upon emergency situations and maintenance needs.

Beginning in the Spring of 2008, SEAPRO responders will be able to benefit from SEAPRO's IWoN (Industrial Workforce Need) program, which links responders with additional training and regional career opportunities.
