Description:
At our centre, volunteers are given the chance to take care of animals rescued from illegal trafficking and coordinate activities related to wild fauna protection. The permanence is 2 weeks minimum and cost is USD 160 per week, which includes lodging (private rooms), meals, everyday transportation to the animal centre, language classes and some tourism activities on days off (like a paleontological museum in Carchi).
This cost covers and includes lodging in very comfortable rooms with private bathrooms, hot water, and TV, 2 hours of Spanish classes every day and meals. Volunteers make lunch and dinner themselves at the centre in a warm and friendly environment, but breakfast is served in the morning at the lodging house before the Spanish classes start. Everyday transportation to the centre is also included.Tickets for the paleontology museum and transportation are included too. There you will have the chance to learn about mastodons, milodons and more prehistoric mammals on your days off.
In Lita, if you have decided to extend your volunteering, you will find comfortable huts with bathrooms and hot water. Volunteers make meals together and after doing their daily activities with the animals they can eventually take a walk around the communities nearby if they decide it to. As this site is after being at the rescue centre in Ibarra, the Spanish classes will be kind of more practical here, having talks and knowing more places from the around. The amount of money you pay per week also covers a music-and-dance show performed by locals and also trail hiking activities around the communities so you can find out more about tourist areas during your days off.
lodging
Volunteers are accommodated in a house which has comfortable separated rooms with all facilities: bed, hot water, Cable TV, laundry and breakfast. We currently have capability for 8 volunteers but we are planning on extending it to 16. You must clearly understand that THIS IS NOT A HOTEL or anything but a house whose owners are people very concerned about the mistreat animals suffer so they are closely related to the centre. The owners are really long for giving people from around the world the chance to work with us on the conservation of the planet.
The care and cleaning of the rooms is entirely on the volunteers. You will be responsible to keep your room clean and like this you will experience a more homey stay at the house. We recommend packing a sweater, rain gear and rubber boots because, though the weather is mostly nice, sometimes it can get rainy for quite a few days
How to get there
To get to CENTRO DE RESCATE GUAYABILLAS you must take a bus to Ibarra from the bus terminal in Quito. The bus fare is about $2.50.
We will pick you up at the bus terminal in Ibarra and then we will take you to the lodging-house so you can make yourself comfortable in your room. If you prefer, you can also be driven from Quito by TAXI LAGOS, a courier company that also transports people in comfortable taxis. They will charge you about $10 for bringing you to Ibarra. Once you are in Ibarra, ask the driver to take you to Calle Sánchez y Cifuentes 6-58 y García Moreno. Whatever your choice, please let us know beforehand.
If you are interested to volunteer, please CONTACT US DIRECTLY and let us know a little more about you (age, nationality, expectations, experience, career, goals, etc.) and the exactly date for your arriving. We will reply as soon as possible. Do not doubt about it.When traveling, as in any other place, do not forget to hire a baggage and travel/medical insurance before you come to Ecuador. Once you are here all you have to do is relax and enjoy your stay.
We will see you soon!!!
