Description:
The Kalamazoo County Poverty Reduction Initiative (PRI) engages with the community, government, human service agencies, and non-profit organizations with the aid of AmeriCorps VISTA members.
As a whole, the VISTA Member Duties across the four positions are to: Coordinate and plan events that build community-wide awareness of poverty issues and available community resources. Build community-wide awareness of the PRI's collaborative efforts to guide our many community partners toward a coordinated approach to comprehensive poverty reduction. Identify and recruit low-income residents, business and community leaders and service providers to identify systemic barriers to self-sufficiency, as well as plan strategic advocacy efforts to remove those barriers. Assist with the development of pilot projects to set the stage for systemic change with community and, when appropriate, statewide impact. Assist in identifying and writing grants for PRI and Community Development projects. Assist in developing and maintaining a central data repository that would identify and monitor poverty reduction resources in the community, as well as identify funding gaps and develop recommendations for resource allocation.

The Event Planning position, as well as the Program & Resource Development position will start in December of 2009 (with a required November training), with one starting next April-July. Applications are now open.
