Description:

Description: UP is working closely with the village of Putubiw, a few miles inland from the town of Cape Coast and close to Kakum National Park. The projects are coordinated by the Students Union of Putubiw, and sponsored by the local chief. Volunteer placements include construction, teaching assisting, awareness campaigns focusing on AIDS, hygiene, reproductive health, education - the opportunities are endless!

Highlights: The Republic of Ghana is unique in so many ways. One of the first African nations to gain independence from colonial rule, Ghana is an English-speaking country surrounded by Francophone countries. The southern border is a stretch of beautiful coastline with inviting beaches. Each of its ten regions offers a unique experience - including historic slave forts, indigenous crafts, game parks and the only jungle canopy walk in Africa. Quest volunteers will have the opportunity to visit the beach, explore local neighborhoods, and listen to live music at local clubs.

Typical Volunteer: A typical United Planet volunteer is someone who is excited about supporting communities in need worldwide. UP Volunteers come from all over the world, and range from high school and college students to 50+. Volunteers are interested in expanding their language skills, immersing in a foreign culture and working to make an impact in-country.

United Planet's Mission Statement: United Planet (UP) is a leading international, educational, humanitarian, and peace-building non-profit organization with members and volunteers in over 150 countries devoted to fostering cross-cultural understanding and friendship and supporting communities in need in order to unite the world in a community beyond borders.
