DEPARTMENT: Evergreen Radio Reading Service (ERRS)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Read live current day’s Seattle Times and Seattle PI newspapers for ERRS audience. Radio news is accessible via the internet on WTBBL’s website and broadcasted on a closed channel radio station serving blind, visually impaired, physically handicapped, and learning disabled patrons in the State of Washington.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Select and read news stories, features, and editorials, using ERRS reading format guidelines.
• Read live with a co-reader for a two-hour session, either the Seattle Times or the Seattle PI.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
• Readers must pass a vocal audition to demonstrate a clear and pleasant reading voice.
• Be able to commit to a weekly schedule and be timely.
• Pleasant reading voice, good articulation and delivery.
• Be able to read well with co-reader and work as a team.
• Willingness to read the news as printed without editorial comment.

SUPERVISION: John Pai, ERRS Radio Broadcaster, 615-0400.

TIME COMMITMENT:
Two hours per week, plus preparation time. Days and times to be determined. Minimum one-year commitment required.

ORIENTATION & TRAINING:
Broadcasters will provide orientation to reading format guidelines.

BENEFITS TO THE VOLUNTEER:
Contribute to providing current news and information to blind, visually impaired, physically handicapped, and learning disabled patrons in the State of Washington.
