Bedside Companion
Description: Provide comfort, company, activities and assistance to patients/family members and to assist with other activities on the 4th floor (Surgery, Ortho, ENT, Neuro, Transplant) - Provide comfort and support to patients in the 4th Floor in-patient Area -Help expedite food service to patients -Assist patients with meals (e.g. opening food/drink containers, positioning tray, etc.) -Getting patients damp, hot towels before after meals to help them wash up -Run errands for patients. Family members or staff as needed (e.g. magazines, newspapers, gift shop, etc.) -Sit with and/or spend time with patients in the unit in the absence of the family: Bedside visits as time permits -Read and converse with patients and provide companionship - Help Give directions to family members - Keep the managers/staff nurses appraised of family concerns: Answer the call light for simple requests (e.g. fill water pitcher, bring telephone closer to patient, extra blankets, washcloth) - Help expedite food getting to families more quickly. - Update bulletin Boards/white boards in the rooms and main areas

Skills: -Enthusiastic to work with Adults from a broad range of backgrounds -Must have a positive viewpoint and be able to maintain a healing attitude -Ability to work with families and patients in stressful situations in a non-judgmental and empathetic manner -Professional Demeanor & Appearance -Ability to communicate across a diverse group of families and patients
