Description:
The Crocodile Conversation Programme is making great strides towards saving the Mugger crocodile, which is fast becoming an endangered species. At the heart of this success are the volunteers who contribute their time and effort season after season, working to save a unique species.
The conservation programme is now offering a range of field work opportunities including, construction of a shore on the lakeside to allow crocodiles to lay eggs and successfully breed. Additionally you can be a part of our aim to place 50,000 fish in the lake not only to aid the breeding process but also improve the ecosystem. Cleaning up the region, ensuring greenery is trimmed for clearer visibility and that locals do not disturb the crocodiles will be smaller tasks included in the programme.
Knowledge about conservation programmes will be beneficial but not essential for this programme. It would be prefered if accepted volunteers prior to coming could research such programmes to get an idea of work being carried out.
ii. Location
Sitami Park was developed by [Deba’s father] and the locals In the 1990s. They collectively planted fruit trees and a variety of greenery to foster the potetial present. Doing this without any government involvement made the achievement of creating an exuberant park all that more rewarding and so the park remains as a symbolic reminder of the villagers’ work.
Ganganagar village is peaceful and has a serene environment, much contrasting with other cities in Nepal. It will give you an opportunity to experience a true remote village, and an opportunity to meet the locals whom you can learn different insights from. Furhter, living in such an environment either at the orphanage or Sitami resort, you will be able to experience the true cultre of Nepal among a villagers whom are more than willing to explain. Such an experience has been rewarding for other volunteers, for feedback read ‘Volunteers report section’.
iii. Daily routine
Below is a description of the daily routine volunteers will undertake whilst on the Crocodile conservation programme.
