Description:

HardtHaven Children’s Home is searching for a long-term volunteer to fill an open Children’s Home Administrator position starting in June of 2009. We are looking for a volunteer that is willing to commit at least one year to a position in Kpando, Ghana. The applicant must have an open and caring attitude combined with solid organizational skills.

Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age
Willing to spend many hours at the home
Prepared to deal with children from the age of 3 months to 16 years old.
Willing to learn the social structure of Ghana and carry themselves accordingly
A background in childcare, education and/or healthcare preferred.

Hours: Many!
Provided: Food and Housing – housing is in a single apartment within walking distance of the home.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Administrative Paperwork:
Daily Health Log
Petty Cash Log
Monthly Updates to the Mayor
Monthly Updates to Stakeholders
Volunteer Updates
Social Inquiry Reports for each incoming child

Assisting the matrons with basic care of the smaller children:
bathing
clothing
diapering
feeding

Monitoring the health of the children:
Basic medication administration for fevers, upset stomache etc
ARV medication oversight for HIV+ children
Accompanying children to hospital when needed
Weekly/monthly weights

Management of short term volunteers:
Orienting new volunteers to the home
Assigning 2 to 3 children to each volunteer
Helping volunteers to design projects
Monitoring tutoring of children by short term volunteers
