Description:
Volunteer with Environment Virginia
Environment Virginia is a statewide citizen-based advocacy organization working for clean air, clean water and preservation of open space. This summer we’re focusing on passing nationwide global warming legislation, cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay & promoting green buildings in the commonwealth of Virginia.
Volunteer Description:
Interns will work one on one with Environment Virginia’s advocate to build effective grassroots campaigns this summer.
The volunteer will help coordinate the following projects.
Coalition Building: Many organizations & businesses across the commonwealth support protecting our planet. The intern will identify, contact and build relationships with potential coalition members to build a broad base of support for our summer campaigns.
Media: Environment Virginia will do a series of report releases and press conferences throughout the summer. The intern will assist the advocate in contacting speakers, coordinating logistics and preparing press materials for these events.
Building Grassroots Power: A majority of the public agrees with our summer campaigns. It is up to us to get their voice heard. The intern will help build public support of these campaigns through visibility & petition signatures.
In addition: You may be asked to take on additional tasks as they arise. You will work closely with Environment Virginia’s advocate, however, you will also be expected to take on your own projects and work individually.
Hours:
Volunteers hours are flexible. Volunteers typically volunteer between 5 - 10 hours/week, and the level of commitment can be tailored to your schedule.
Qualifications:
We are looking for people who are serious about saving the planet, have a desire to strengthen and grow the environmental movement, and have demonstrated leadership experience.
Benefits:
Volunteers will gain valuable skills and training working with a professional grassroots environmental non-profit.
