In collaboration with the AmeriCorps*VISTA Program, Tulane’s Center for Public Service sponsors 25 members to work full time with community partners to assist in their efforts to serve New Orleans. Tulane VISTA members work as liaisons between Tulane's Center for Public Service and the organization with which they are placed. VISTAs work in their placement agencies Monday through Thursday, and meet on Friday at Tulane for staff meetings, professional development, and support. The AmeriCorps VISTA program is as historic as it is important. One year younger than the Peace Corps, VISTA has placed individuals in all walks and stages of life as capacity builders in American Cities. This is a one-year commitment with a modest stipend of $865 dollars per month ($10,600, annually). In addition to the living stipend provided by AmeriCorps and the housing provided by Tulane, the chosen applicant will be eligible for a $4,725 educational award that can be retroactively applied to past student loans are used to pursue further education.

So what's this position like?

The VISTA will work with staff to devise and carry out a multi-faceted marketing and community outreach campaign. The targeted population of this campaign will likely include local and regional businesses, community organizations, city and state offices, as well as private households. The campaign may include traditional advertising, such as radio and television PSAs, but will focus primarily on grassroots strategies. The VISTA will be a public face of The Green Project and will be responsible for presenting a positive and appropriate image of The Green Project to the Greater New Orleans Area.
Major Responsibilities:
-Locate funds, both from The Green Project’s budget and outside sources, to organize
marketing and outreach campaign
-Work to institutionalize Marketing and Outreach position for future years
-Work with Tulane’s Center for Public Service to create and maintain service learning opportunities at The Green Project
-Monitor and report on impact of marketing and outreach

Requirements / Preferred Qualities:
-BA/BS
-Highly motivated with great interpersonal skills
-Prior experience in marketing (with for-profit or non-profit organization) a major plus
-Flexibility and creativity to devise an innovative campaign, while working under a tight budget
-Ability to quickly familiarize with the culture and activities of The Green Project
-While work attire is very casual at The Green Project, professional attire will be necessary
