Dog walker
Volunteering as a dog walker at your local animal shelter is a meaningful way to make difference in the lives of homeless dogs in your community. Animal shelters are a safe haven for animals, but unfortunately, dogs in animal shelters are confined to cages. The isolation and restricted activity can cause health and behavior problems that affect the dogs' quality of life and chances for adoption. Volunteer dog walkers provide the daily exercise, affection and socialization that confined dogs need to stay healthy, happy and adoptable so that they can one day go home to a family that will care for them in ways their original owners did not. Animal shelters rely on the help of volunteers to operate; dog walking is one of the most flexible ways to help. If you are an animal lover interested in brightening the day of a lonely dog that needs a little attention and exercise -- and if you need maximum flexibility with your volunteering -- walking dogs may be for you! This position offers flexible scheduling. You may volunteer at your convenience between the hours of 10:00AM-8:00PM Mon-Fri and 10:00AM-4:30PM Saturday and Sunday.
Spay/Neuter Assistant Volunteer
Spay/Neuter assistant volunteers assist the veterinarians and vet techs with spay/neuter surgeries for our low-cost program, our placement partner transfer program, and our interested party adoption program. Duties include assisting with pre-surgery details, monitoring recovering animals, check-in of animals and releasing of animals after surgery.
This is a scheduled position. Morning shifts are 8AM-10AM. Evening shifts are 6:00PM-7:30PM. There is no maximum or minimum requirement for number of days to volunteer.
General Maintenance
Volunteers can assist shelter staff with daily laundry and cleaning duties. This position offers flexible scheduling. You may volunteer at your convenience between the hours of 10:00AM-8:00PM Mon-Fri and 10:00AM-4:30PM Saturday and Sunday.
Foster Care Volunteer
Foster care volunteers provide temporary care and shelter for potentially adoptable animals (including animals with specific medical problems and animals that need extra socialization) for anywhere from one to eight weeks. A home environment with either no other animals or the ability to isolate foster care animals from other pets is required. Depending on the animal being fostered, volunteers may need to have a lifestyle that allows for around-the-clock feeding and care of the animal. Anyone who would like to become a foster care volunteer should file a separate application and must await approval. The foster care application can be obtained from the Volunteer Coordinator.
Special Event Volunteer
Special event volunteers assist with various projects and special events by providing office support and assistance at off-site events such as community events, fundraisers, neighborhood meetings and volunteer recruitment events.

When you give animals the gift of your time, you'll get back as much as you give—maybe even more.
Here are just a few of the benefits of volunteering:
Be part of the solution. You'll join a network of hundreds of thousands of people working to make the world safe and more humane for all living creatures. You'll make the jobs of everyone working for animals a little easier by lending a hand and spreading the message of responsible pet ownership.
Get warm fuzzies. You'll never find a more grateful and accepting comrade than an animal you have comforted. Who can't use another loyal support in life?
Keep good company. You'll make lots of new friends—and not just the four-legged kind. Working side by side with people who share similar interests can forge lifelong friendships.
Meet the new you. You'll discover skills you never knew you had, and you may be surprised at what you're capable of achieving.
Gain a new career. You'll learn things that may lead you to the career—or career change—of your dreams. Employers and college admissions officers look favorably on time spent in volunteer service.
Enjoy a wagging tail, a purr, and a smile. Didn't someone once say that the best things in life are free?
