Description:
YouthBuild USA VISTA Service Descriptions
1) The YouthBuild Green Project Leader will position the local YouthBuild program to do one or more of the following:
- Increase green construction by accessing information, materials, funds, and expertise, through building partnerships and writing proposals.
- Gain job placements for its graduates in weatherization and other green industries by accessing training, curricula, and partnerships.
- Build a job-creating, revenue-generating green non-profit enterprise that can employ graduate and other community residents and undertake weatherization and green construction contracts in the community.
- Generate young leaders equipped with knowledge to become community leaders on green issues.
There are 33 positions in the following locations: Chula Vista, CA; Gardena, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Stockton, CA; Venice, CA; Forest Park, GA; Bloomington, IL; North Chicago, IL; Rockford, IL; Waukegan, IL; Portland, ME; Cambridge, MA; Fall River, MA; Lowell, MA; Gulfport, MS; Newark, NJ; Paterson, NJ; Schenectady, NY; Columbus, OH; Dayton, OH; Oklahoma City, OK; Portland, OR; Philadelphia, PA; Kingstree, SC; Lancaster, SC; Brownsville, TX; Burlington, VT; Kincaid, WV. Each local program may have varying duties and responsibilities.
2) The YouthBuild Resource Developer will strengthen and increase the capacity of local YouthBuild programs by conducting some or all of the following activities:
- Access private and public funds through researching funds available and writing proposals.
- Work with YouthBuild USA to access individual contributions and volunteers for the local program through a system of house parties and web-based fundraising.
- Manage corporate partnerships that bring volunteers to assist in mentoring, and in homebuilding

3) The YouthBuild Mentoring Coordinator will assist local programs to Identify mentors, train and match mentors with students, and manage the mentorship partnership. In some locations this position will develop systems to deliver resources to alumni.
YouthBuild Mentoring Coordinator Positions are available in: San Diego, CA; Stockton, CA; Quincy, MA; Worcester, MA; Paterson, NJ; Schenectady, NY; Portland, OR; Providence, RI; Madison, WI
4) The YouthBuild State Coalition Resource Developer will assist state coalitions to build partnerships with public and private organizations that support the goals of YouthBuild statewide to enroll maximum numbers of low-income youth and court-involved youth. This position will also manage the communication and distribution of information and resources among the members of the Coalition statewide. There are five such positions in California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Each state coalition may have varying duties and responsibilities.
5) The YouthBuild USA National Resource Developers and Special Projects Managers will work in Somerville, Massachusetts, doing research, building partnerships, accessing resources, organizing volunteers, and managing communications with the field. Each will be focused on helping local YouthBuild programs in one of the following specialties:
• quality of education programming
• rural and Native American programming
• green resources and partners
• criminal justice issues for programs serving many court-involved youth
• training and leadership development opportunities for staff and graduates
• resource development with special attention to web-based systems
• special projects in communication, new program development, and service event creation
• program evaluation and building field capacity to manage data systems
• membership and accreditation processes for affiliates
