POSITION TITLE: Service-Learning Coordinator, Volunteers in Service to America
JOB DESCRIPTION: Washington Campus Compact (WACC) is currently recruiting VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) Members to serve on college campuses across the state in the Seattle area, the Yakima area, the Bellingham area, the Spokane area, and the Olympia area. WACC VISTA members will mobilize college service-learners and volunteers to serve poverty-affected K-12 students and community members, develop and sustain campus/community partnerships to serve poverty-affected students and community members and develop college service-learning projects within courses focused on poverty issues.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES AND RELATED TASKS:
1) Support faculty in developing projects and service-learning courses which address issues of poverty
2) Participate in fundraising/grant writing activities related to the project goals
3) Work with faculty/administrators to recruit, train and place college/university student volunteers in service-learning and volunteer programs/projects that work to alleviate poverty
4) Coordinate service-learning projects and events for national days of service which focus on addressing poverty issues for college/university students and disadvantaged K-12 youth
5) Assist in institutionalization of service-learning procedures: developing manuals, handbooks, trainings and other resources for students, faculty, staff and community partner organizations
6) Develop long term sustainable partnerships between college/universities and community organizations
7) Participate in networking & training events
8) Participate in fundraising and grant-writing activities related to the goals of the VISTA Project
HOURS OF SERVICE:
Term of Service is 365 days. Currently recruiting for August or September 2009-10.
Mandatory, all expenses paid, Pre-Service Orientation (PSO) begins September 15-18. First day of work on campus is September 21.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) AA or BA preferred (not required)
2) Interest and experience in community service/service learning and knowledge of and/or interest in working with college students, faculty, staff, and community partners
3) Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and multi-task
4) Excellent verbal and written communication skills
5) Computer proficiency
6) Ability to make a full-year commitment with no outside employment or school.
BENEFITS:
1) Monthly living allowance of $833-$940 before taxes, depending upon project location.
2) Post service $4,725 Education Award or $1200 end-of-term cash award
