Narrative description of the problem:

Orphan children of HIV/AIDS victims; trafficking in women and children for the purpose of child labor and sex slavery to the town center of Bamenda and neighboring towns has resulted to a new generation of street children in the town of Bamenda the regional capital of the North West Region of Cameroon. Bamenda is heavily populated with old and decayed outdated housing. The current high death rate is due to HIV/AIDS and Cholera epidemics.

The worsening economic crises, scarcity of housing and social amenities in the town of Bamenda and neighboring towns now account for the increasing number of street children. Street children are also increasing because of increasing practice of child trafficking and child labor; low income and lack of social services or funding; lack of primary school infrastructure, high tuition and fees, as well as lack of appropriate vocational training institutions; uncared for orphan Children with HIV/AIDS and of HIV/AIDS victims. Unemployment is over 1500% amongst able to work youths in Bamenda.

The implementation of this project which is the primary objective of which the GEED Foundation is founded has been delayed due to the lack of funds and resources needed.
Although the GEED Foundation has managed to provide awareness and advocacy for the rehabilitation of victimized street children in the Bamenda, there has been no satisfactory solution to the problem from the authorities.

The GEED foundation is now identifying most vulnerable street children, introducing them and paying for their primary education and livelihood in Bamenda. We are facing and solving conflicts such as discrimination, integration difficulties, and psychosocial problems faced by these children as result of their lack of appropriate care and support.

More children are missing, raped, murdered and found with their body parts mutilated by unquestionable rituals, wide spread child labor and child prostitution observed in Bamenda.

Proposed solution:

1. One rehabilitated Street Child in Bamenda currently lives on $1.94 USD a day.
2. This project is looking for one off $700 US dollars to spend per street child for one year on currently needed basic: feeding, clothing, health care and basic education.

3. This project has identified 26 most vulnerable street children that are to benefit from this project as a matter of priority from September 2009.

4. This project is providing long term support to street children by providing a dedicated Street Children Service that currently identify, advises and solves problems of street children. This is currently the Street Children Walk-in-Center of the GEED Foundation.

5. There are currently identified 368 very vulnerable poorest of poor street children in the city of Bamenda, Cameroon. However, only these 26 most vulnerable of these poorest of the poor street children will benefit now due to current economic climate.

6. This project is devising a sustainable legal mechanism that should help well wishers of street children legally adopt children or identify and reintegrate street children with their families. It is hoped that adopting families will provide for the children in the second year hence forth.

7. This project aims to provide to the adopting families for 1 year free advise, counseling and relevant capacity building that should help the adopting families integrate the adopted children within their usual and normal family care support system.
