Description:
Be part of a pioneer humanitarian project in the Ladakh Valley. Under the shadows of the Himalayan and Karakoram Mountains we set up our dental clinic in the small town of Leh at 12,000 ft. Volunteers work with local staff to provide first time dental care to chilrden from all over the valley. You don't have to be a dentist to volunteer! Each project accepts 5-7 non-medical volunteers to run the clinic, manage patient lines, teach toothbrush instruction, and assist dentists. In addition to non-medical volunteers, we accept Dentists and Hygienists to work in each clinic.
The clinic provides care to children around the Ladakh valley. Local staff work in the clinic without regard to religious views – Ladakh is home to people of Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian faith. It is amazing and affirming to be a part of this truly multi-cultural clinic.
Days off are spent soaking in the spectacular landscape – taking day hikes or visiting age-old Buddhist monasteries perched on the highest hilltops. After the clinic, there is an optional sightseeing visit to Agra to see the Taj Mahal.
Application Process:
There is an application packet for potential volunteers to complete. There are a variety of questions about your past experiences, skills and expectations around volunteering. Not hard to complete! We do not require any specialized credentials for non-medical volunteers. The most important quality a volunteer can have is flexibility and a willingness
to serve the community.
You can volunteer in two ways:
1.) come for the full term of the project which includes one week working in a mobile clinic, followed by one week of sightseeing, or
2.) Just come for the week of working in the clinic and omit the sightseeing.
Project Cost:
The cost for participation in this project is: $3,750 per person (tax-deductible) based on twin sharing room (please call our office to find out about the single room rate).
