More than one-half of students in NYC Public Schools do not graduate from high school. Help to close the gap. Mentor in NYC schools as a McBride College Bound Volunteer Participant (VP).

Mission
The McBride Foundation is a nonprofit organization that started in 1994 in response to the increasing dropout rate in our country and targets underprivileged Title I schools across the nation.

McBride College Bound is an innovative program which trains and sends college students to inner city elementary schools to expand children’s awareness of the educational opportunities available to them. The program also helps children develop a sense of personal responsibility for staying at grade level in their studies.

Description
The Volunteer Participant position will be based on college campuses and report directly to the McBride College Bound On Site Campus Coordinator.

Duties
1. Conduct 5 classroom visits per semester (approx. 45-60 minutes) to assigned elementary classrooms called the Advisory Council.
2. Facilitate the Advisory Council exercises and present the McBride College Bound curriculum to the Advisory Council members.
3. Recruit other college student VP’s from personal, academic, professional and social networks.
4. Help identify elementary school classrooms in the local community who could benefit from the McBride College Bound curriculum.
5. Conduct an end of the program campus tour.
6. Complete the End of the Semester Report.
