Description:
You'll find much to discover in France with its magnificent countryside ranging from the Atlantic to the Alps, a vibrant history, and an artistic soul. It would be hard to exhaust its variety in a lifetime of visits. The many regions of France each look different, feel different, and each has its own style of architecture, food and often its own patois (dialect). There is a wide range of things to see whether it's the Gothic cathedrals of the north, the châteaux of the Loire, or the Roman monuments of the south. The countryside also has its own appeal, seemingly unchanged for hundreds of years. Culturally, France has played a major role in the Western world from the Middle Ages to the 21st century leading the way in architecture, painting (just think of the Impressionists), fashion, and, of course, cuisine.
Program Description
As a community volunteer in France you'll participate in a project run by a non-governmental organization or social agency. Here, you'll gain valuable personal and vocational skills while contributing to social, recreational, or environmental betterment.
This is a highly individualized program in which AFS volunteers and staff work hard to match your interests and skills with the needs of an appropriate organization. Whether you live with a host family or reside at the community service site, you will build strong friendships and learn firsthand about life in France.
Participants must have strong French language skills—minimum four years or equivalent.
