Advocates- Advocates are individuals who assist in the personal needs of emergency workers. Advocates help emergency workers obtain resources, support, assistance, and the tools they need in order heal from physical or psychological injuries. Advocates help in the following ways:
Filling out and filing benefits/insurance paperwork
Writing letters to individuals, department heads, benefits coordinators, companies, etc on behalf of the emergency worker
Obtain needed resources on a local, state, and national level for the individual or department in need
Obtain and maintain the database of resources that Firefighter Ministries has
Can specifically work in the Fallen Firefighter Program & The Phoenix Project
Works closely with Chaplains and Peer Counselors
Qualifications for Advocates
· Ability to work independently, follow-through on given assignments and exercise initiative and good judgment;
· Ability to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor regarding highly critical issues involving confidentiality and discretion;
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff Chaplains, and Peer Counselors, emergency service departments, other agencies and organizations, and the public;
· Ability to work under pressure and with sensitive issues;
· Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
· Strong report writing and form writing skills
· Ability to research resources
· Strong interest in providing service to emergency service personnel

Consultants- Individuals who consult the Board of Directors, and the Executive Directors regarding the financial, personnel, and in-kind needs of the organization. Consultants will assist and represent the volunteers when a need arises. Consultants report directly to the Volunteer Director.
Qualifications for Consultants include:
