UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program
The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health Program is a nationally recognized center in Southern California to promote worker health and safety . UCLA-LOSH specializes in participatory worker training in English and Spanish, development of innovative bilingual educational materials and curriculum, and policy information in the area of workplace health and safety. LOSH is part of UCLA’s Institute for Research on Labor and Employment in the College of Letters and Science and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health in the School of Public Health.

With a multi-ethnic, bilingual staff of professionals including health educators, an industrial hygienist, a social worker, and Haz Mat specialists, the LOSH Program trains hundreds of workers yearly and similarly provides technical assistance, research and policy information to many others. UCLA-LOSH is the lead agency for the Western Region Universities Consortium funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), providing Haz Mat and hazardous waste training in California, the Pacific Northwest and Arizona. LOSH is the Southern California partner in a statewide worker health and safety training initiative funded by the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation. The California Wellness Foundation supports LOSH's youth activities. The LOSH training model emphasizes development of worker leaders to participate in workplace health and safety programs. LOSH also collaborates with the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics to recruit students into the field of occupational health, and with other university and community organizations to provide internships.
