Thank you note
Date: October 22, 10:33pm
I had a terrific informational interview today. The woman I spoke with wants me to email her so she can pass on information about a job at an agency in her building. Two things: 1) She told me about the position but I know I'm not interested b/c I actually want to see if I can create a position for myself at her agency. 2) She wanted me to email her when I got home so that she could send me the info about the other organization. Of course I said I would and that I would send her the link to my website. Before speaking with her I had planned to send her a handwritten thank you note after the interview. Can I send her the email to follow up and send her a snail mail note? Or should I just send her the thank you in the email?
Thanks for your thoughts!

Seeking pilot partners for a radical new way of coordinating community volunteers
Date: October 23, 10:29am
Hi everyone,
We want to let you know about a new way for nonprofits and local organizers to engage deeply with their community and area, by using cellphone text messaging in a real-time, live, and local way. This can streamline operations, simplify your job, free up time and money, and dramatically increase the impact of your efforts and the scope of your organization. You can find out a lot more on our website: http://groundcrew.us We've blocked off next week for talking with coordinators about your challenges and how we can help. We believe that this platform will incite engagement on an unprecedented scale. Those who participate will receive a lot of attention! Looking forward to hearing from you! The Groundcrew Team

RE: volunteering in kenya under WALTZ VOLUNTEERS
Date: October 23, 12:20pm
So, Jacob had his "own reasons" and was out to tarnish this organization's name, Maria Peter and I are all one and the same person, who had their own personal reason for "revenge", all these people were personally investigated by Carol, who is just a former volunteer and has no personal gain here...
Yes, that adds up perfectly.

Acumen Fund Fellows Program - Applications Open Through November 5!
Date: October 23, 3:19pm
Acumen Fund Fellows Program, Class of 2010-2011
Application Deadline: 11:59pm EST November 5th, 2009 Organization: ACUMEN FUND Start date: September 1, 2010 End date: September 30, 2011 Fellowship Description: Acumen Fund's year-long fellowship for the Class of 2010-2011 will begin in September 2010 with eight weeks of intensive and multidisciplinary leadership training in our New York City office. Training topics cover a wide variety of soft and hard skills, ranging from self reflection, negotiation and storytelling to functional topics such as investment techniques, valuation, marketing and operations. The Fellows will meet with leaders from diverse fields, as well as leading writers and thinkers. Training will also explore issues related to our specific investment geographies and sectors. Following two months of training in New York, Fellows begin their nine-month field placements with Acumen Fund investees. Each Fellow is assigned to a company, where they support senior management in tackling critical business issues - market expansion, business plan refinement, supply chain improvements, or leading new business initiatives. At the end of the program, the Fellows return to New York for three weeks in September 2011 to share experiences and lessons learned with Acumen Fund’s community, and to focus on their next steps. *It is important to note that while the training and graduation are conducted in New York, the bulk of the Fellowship actually takes place in our investment regions. Applicants selected for the program should not expect to spend any more than 3 months of the 1 year Fellowship in the United States. She told you to email...use that as your thank you. Follow through on the other job, that may actually be the lead into her agency! You can go to an interview and then get back to her thanking her but saying (somewhat wistfully) "you know I'm so impressed with your organization, I'd much prefer to come to you."

RE: Is Water as an issue being ignored in Academia?

I think you are working on a very good topic as we are steadily and fairly quickly towards a very big crisis which will involve shortage of drinking water. Many countries are already facing this issue as sources of fresh water are diminishing very fast.

Date: October 24, 11:29pm
Is there anyone on the forums who works for a non-profit org and is interested in participating in a 15 minute informational interview with an undergraduate student? I'm talking to non-profiteers about their job as part of a class assignment. The transcript of the interview will be submitted to my professor and will NOT be published. If you'd like to participate, please email me ASAP at chiquitaw@gmail.com.
