When are we going to start?
Date: August 15, 4:04pm
Hi Guys,

I signed up for this group as its slogan appealed to me very much. However, I do not see any activity here.
Anybody knows what's going on?

Thanks
Azra

Let's start now! Why don't we each throw out a few ideas? All it takes is one action to get the ball rolling. Perhaps, brainstorming will be our first task and then we could all vote on a task or intiative we would like to take further. Sound okay?

Good idea Nicole!
Renee, if you started this group, perhaps you could let us know what you had in mind and how you see this group coming together.

I'm loving the excitement to get started!

I'm loving the enthusiasm of the group so far. I must admit I had lofty ideas when I came across this site and posted my idea for how I want to contribute to the community both home and abroad. My dream is to have an organization that impacts the lives of girls, allowing them to grow up to be strong women contributing to society. There are opportunities both locally and abroad where such an organization could have an impact. Locally on our own turf it's helping girls learn skills that assist them later in life, skills that can help build confidence, skills that can allow them to confident women knowing that they can lead full and independent lives.

Globally, it's about assisting girls in communities where their choices are limited, often it's the boys that get to further their education when it comes down to a choice, it's about providing equipment, materials and books to allow girls to develop and become educated. To give the girls an opportunity to be a contributing member of society. Eventually, I'd love to have a mentoring program for girls with women from around the world, and to build an exchange program for girls from North America have an opportunity to travel to a developing country and vice versa.

What I'd like to see is a group of people working to build a grassroots organization that supports those lofty goals, likely the early steps is to begin a group and to have some discussions on ideas for short terms goals, what we'd like to accomplish in the next 12 to 18 months and then begin to work on it. My impact I'd like to see would be in the developing countries. So it's about beginning to build connections with organization in an area we'd like to begin relations with, it's about looking to see what we need to do to build a non-profit orgnization.....on and on it flows.....

So here's a question, when you read the promo page what was it that drew you in, what did you invision?

I really loved the name of the group because I do believe that you can change the world for better if you educate girls. In general, women are for passion, not domination, compassion, not aggression and community, not isolation.
I do not need to repeat what everybody knows, that even today, and even in developed countries, women are not in situation to use much of their positive power, regardless of the kind of society they are in.
I agree that education of girls is very important, but it is equally important to keep promoting education throughout their lives, regardless of their age or their status.
I was thinking about an idea to start a mentoring program for young women in their respective profession. But then again, I was thinking that mentoring can be extended for any woman, regardless what they do in their lives. Everybody needs an advice for something that somebody else already experienced, no matter what it is. And less a woman educated is, more mentoring she needs.
Since majority of members in this group are from Canada, how about helping our local women, who are disadvantaged in their education and immigrants who need help with their language skills. We in Canada probably have representatives from almost any country in the world. Once we learn more about their respective country's culture it would be much easier to offer help there when the opportunity comes along.

I was attracted by the idea for two reasons:

First: The title is simple and the idea seams simple: To change one person at a time, not too pretentious, but it seams to be something possible to achieve and that can actually make a difference.

Second: I believe in teaching how to fish, not just giving fishes away. If you can make a difference in one person's live, that will certainly have a big impact in the long term, not just for this person in specific, but for the lives that s/he may touch in the future.

I am from a semi-developed country, but the gender distinction here can be seen in many fields, if I can help in any way to change that, then I will.

What drew me in to your promo page
Date: September 7, 9:07am
Renee,
Your vision is my vision. After reading your introduction and motive behind what you have started to work towards, i felt like i was reading thoughts and goals that i have conjured up, but have not had the insight nor the resources to act upon them. Simply put, your vision excites me because i feel so deeply about women's issues and our position in the world, especially in education. We have so much power and often times do not know how to use it. But, collectively we can make a difference one girl at a time, from every corner of the world. I truly believe, like you believe that we have the power and might to slowly change the world that we live in.
