Do you know of anyone on the ground in Pisco?
Date: August 18, 7:49pm
Organizing and collecting stuff is great but the best way to help is to physically go there and help rebuild and assist with your own hands. Does anyone know of any organizations or groups that are physically there in the destroyed areas (being told or reading it on the web or t.v doesn't count).

In as much as I appreciate the feedback on going to Peru to help in the effort to rebuild Pisco, I have found there is an amazing support group in NYC that is willing to donate, throught the Peruvian consulate, and distribute aid immediately to the most needed areas that which we have collected. The response in NY has been tremendous and next Saturday a shipment of much needed donations is being delivered for delivery to Peru. Not everyone can get on a plane and go assist in the much needed effort to help, but I must disagree with the arguement that the only viable help is through on site assistance. Please do NOT dismiss the efforts of those in New York who are devoing their time and energy to do what they can in the help of the victims of this much needed aid simply because they physically can't be in Peru. All and any help is better than nothing. Please refrain from submitting negative posts to the very generous efforts of those trying to help from afar !!!

Could you please make sure that there is no infant formula or baby bottles in the shipment. Baby bottles should never be used in emergency situations because of the difficulty of cleaning them and usually there is only a small amount of infant formula and that is best obtained locally (where instructions will be in the local language). Unfortunately, unsolicited donation of infant formula often arrive at the site of emergencies and cause incredible harm. You can obtain more information about this issue at http://www.ennonline.net/ife/resources.aspx

Thanks very much Melina. That's wonderful. Good luck with your collection...I'm a bit far away to help!
